Specialty Saffron Spice Package Design for Garzisi takes a look at a gorgeous package which conveys the elaborate, exclusive nature of saffron production and its nuanced flavor adequately.
The Italian client Giulio Garzisi have mastered the art of refining the elaborate and complex art of producing high quality saffron. Renowned for its distinct and excellent flavor in subcontinental, latin american and middle-eastern recipes in particular, manufacturing high quality saffron isn’t an easy art.
Saffron is a spice which is generally expensive since it is difficult to produce and store in a manner that its innate purity of flavor is preserved until it reaches its final destination – a flavorful recipe of a dish. Thankfully, the package design by Sulmona based Italian design agency Brandlore is perfectly aligned to prevent any direct contact with its valuable, delicate stems.
A wooden mortar and pestle, made with beechwood serves to safely guard the glass jar containing the Saffron stems. The casing serves both as a mechanical shock resistance as well as absorbs any latent humidity or moisture to reduce chances of bacteria or anything which may reduce freshness. At the same time, the organic casing is eco-friendly and easy to recycle.
The package is more layered than it appears to meet the eye. A finely crafted pair of ad-hoc tweezers help in plucking the stems out of the glass jar neatly. Additionally, a sphere like attachment which rests inside the bottle for hygiene allied with the solid glass bottom makes for a nifty little crusher.
The box itself, inspired by the beautiful saffron flower, is a neat hexagonal package with a brochure inside. Once you turn the sides inside out, it can serve as an elegant display. In addition to the wooden lid, sophisticated logo embossed in metal and clean, geometric lines this is one artisanal product which speaks the language of specialty taste connoisseurs. Garzisi saffron deserves no less.
